Began playing in BHS hockey school, founded by former Latvian legend Helmuts Balderis.
Played in North America since he was 14. Primarily a center but also used on the wings.
Skilled, two-way player with great hockey IQ. Good at faceoffs.
Player with physical flair and not afraid to get dirty in the corners or down low.
Only average skating at best, lacking explosiveness.
Drafted in the NHL by Pittsburgh Penguins 2012.
When he got drafted he was the third-highest selected Latvian hockey player in the NHL Entry Draft, behind Zemgus Girgensons and Sandis Ozoliņš.

Il a commencé à jouer à l'école de hockey BHS, fondée par la légende lettone Helmuts Balderis.
Il a joué en Amérique du nord depuis ses 14 ans. D'abord un centre, mais il peut aussi être utilisé à l'aile.
Attaquant défensif talentueux qui comprend bien le jeu. Bon aux mises au jeu.
Joueur qui apprécie le jeu physique et n'a pas peur de se salir les mains dans les coins ou dans l'enclave.
Patinage moyen tout au plus, manquant d'explosivité.
Drafté en NHL par les Pittsburgh Penguins en 2012.
Quand il fut drafté, il était le troisième Letton choisi le plus haut par la NHL, derrière Zemgus Girgensons et Sandis Ozoliņš.
