Outstanding playmaking skills and great speed. Two rock-solid seasons with Jokerit in SM-Liiga got him a move straight to the NHL just after the lockout, in the summer of 2005. He was only 21. Spent a year with Red Wings' farm team before settling as a fixture in their roster and winning the Stanley Cup in 2008.
Creative and always played a mature game. Solid two-way player. Hard worker, dedicated and responsible in his own end. Able to play all three forward positions. Could have been stronger physically and a better shooter.
Flag bearer of Finland and Olympic champion in 2022. His first daughter Vera was born just before the Olympic Games.
Became the first Finnish member of the Triple Gold Club after winning the world championship gold medal the same year.

Excellent passeur et créateur, très rapide sur ses patins. Deux saisons de haut niveau avec les Jokerit en Liiga lui valurent un contrat en NHL dès l'été 2005. Il avait 21 ans. Après une année dans l'équipe-ferme des Red Wings (les Grand Rapids Griffins), il s'imposa définitivement à Detroit et remporta la Coupe Stanley 2008.
Jeu sérieux, mature, sans fioriture et utile des deux côtés de la glace. Ce grand travailleur ne néglige jamais ses missions défensives et s'en acquitte avec efficacité, ce qui lui permet aussi d'occuper n'importe quel poste sur le front de l'attaque. Comme on ne peut pas tout avoir, il manque de densité physique et de puissance dans le tir.
Porte-drapeau de la Finlande et médaillé d'or aux Jeux olympiques d'hiver 2022. Sa première fille Vera est née juste avant le tournoi et il a passé 24 heures avec elle et son épouse Jordan Danielle avant de partir pour Pékin.
Trois mois plus tard, il a remporté les championnats du monde et est devenu le premier Finlandais à remporter les trois trophées majeurs.
