Son of a French-born-and-raised father who moved to Florida to pursue a career as a professional Jai alai player in the 1980s.
There he met Shayne’s Canadian mother who worked at the Jai alai place. A cousin named Udo Gostisbehere (b.1992) played as a professional football (soccer) player in the lower French divisions.
Shayne was born in Pembroke Pines, FL but grew up in Margate, FL.
He learned to skate at the age of three thanks to his grandfather (from his mothers side) who once had been a recreational hockey player in Quebec.
2016 NCAA Frozen Four MVP wih a staggering plus-7 in the final game.
In 2015/16 he set an NHL-record for most consecutive games with scoring at least a point for a rookie defenseman (15).
A bit undersized for an NHL-defenseman. Under average when it comes to size and overall strength.
Outstanding skater with great puck-moving skills. Ability to quarterback the power play.
Offensively dangerous with an excellent offensive acumen. Clutch ability in big games.

Son père, né et élevé en France, a déménagé en Floride pour poursuivre une carrière de joueur de pelote basque dans les années 1980.
Il rencontre la mère de Shayne, canadienne, qui travaillait dans une salle de pelote basque. Un cousin du nom d’Udo Gostisbehere (né en 1992) a joué comme joueur de football professionnel en Nationale 2 et Nationale 3.
Sayne est né à Pembroke Pines, mais a grandi à Margate.
Il a appris à patiner à l’âge de 3 ans grâce à son grand-père maternel qui fut un joueur de hockey loisir au Québec.
Meilleur joueur du Frozen Four 2016 de NCAA avec une incroyable fiche de +7 en finale.
En 2015-16, il a établi un record en NHL du plus grand nombre de matchs consécutifs avec au moins un point pour un défenseur rookie (15).
Un peu petit pour un défenseur NHL (180 cm, 82 kg). Sous la moyenne pour la taille et la force.
Excellent patineur qui sait très bien faire vivre le palet. Capable d'organiser le jeu en supériorité numérique.
Dangereux offensivement avec beaucoup de flair. Capable d'être décisif dans les grands matches.
