The modern prototype of a player in the 1970s. Big center who was strong inside the slot, often scoring goals from close in.
Strong wrist shot and excellent physique combined with great stickhandling.
Creative and fine playmaker who created a lot of opportunities for his linemates.
Good leadership qualities. Began playing ice hockey at the age of six, and league hockey at 16.
Captain at the age of 20. Scored 132 goals in 256 games for the Czechoslovakian national team.
Played 544 league games and scored 347 times.
Three time World Champion who captained the national team between 1977-80.
First Czech player together with Jiří Bubla to appear in a Stanley Cup final.
Battled knee and back problems. Retired in 1987. Successful ice hockey coach later on in his career, leading the Czechs both to an Olympic and World Championship gold medals.
Second ever European NHL head coach. Killed in a car accident, a head on collision with a truck.
Inducted into the Czech Hockey Hall of Fame.

Le prototype du joueur moderne dans les années 1970. Surnommé "le Grand" (Dlouhej), ce centre était fort dans l'enclave et marquait souvent de très près.
Fort tir du poignet et très bon physique combiné avec un bon maniement du bâton.
Créateur de jeu inventif et fin qui ouvrait des possibilités pour ses compagnons de ligne.
Bonnes qualités de leadership. Il a commencé le hockey à 6 ans et a débuté en championnat à 16 ans.
Capitaine à 20 ans. Il a marqué 132 buts en 256 sélections pour la Tchécoslovaquie.
Il a joué 544 parties en championnat tchécoslovaque et a marqué 347 fois.
Trois fois champion du monde et capitaine de l’équipe nationale entre 1977 et 1980.
Premier joueur tchèque, avec Jiří Bubla, à apparaître dans une finale de Coupe Stanley.
S’est battu contre des problèmes de dos et de genou. S’est retiré en 1987. Fut ensuite un entraîneur à succès, menant les Tchèques à une victoire olympique et à un championnat du monde.
Deuxième entraîneur européen de tous les temps en NHL. Tué dans un accident de voiture, une collision frontale avec un camion.
Introduit au Temple de la renommée du hockey tchèque.
123 points (42+81) en 137 parties de saison régulière NHL.
