Came from a sports oriented family where ice hockey and football were the sports of choice.
His brother Michal eventually played league football. Scored over 600 points in almost 800 career games.
Represented Czechoslovakia/Czech Republic 59 times (26 goals).
Drafted in the NHL by Detroit Red Wings in 1988.
Had a very good World Championship tournament in 1992, making the All-Star team.
Thanks to that it earned him a contract with Detroit later that year, and he attended the NHL training camp.
One of his career highlights was playing alongside Steve Yzerman for a few games.
His talent was immediately recognized and Detroit counted on him for the future.
His outgoing personality won him many friends among his new teammates who quickly gave him the nickname ”Herbie”.
He only played briefly in the AHL, but soon had to head back to Europe because of his baby daughter who had some health issues, making it hard for him to concentrate on hockey.
Retired in 2009.
Ran a small place serving food and drinks for a while.
Eventually became a junior hockey coach.

Vient d’une famille sportive où le hockey et le football étaient des sports de prédilection.
Son frère Michal a joué dans le championnat de football.

59 sélections avec a Tchécoslovaquie et la Tchéquie 59 fois (26 buts).
Les Red Wings de Détroit l'ont drafté en 1988 et l'ont mis sous contrat après de très bons Mondiaux en 1992 (il était dans l’équipe-type).
Il participa au camp d’entraînement NHL et l’un de ses grands souvenirs fut de jouer avec Steve Yzerman pour quelques matchs.
Son talent fut immédiatement reconnu et Détroit comptait sur lui pour le futur.
Sa personnalité lui fit faire de nombreux amis parmi ses nouveaux coéquipiers qui le surnomment Herbie.
Il a seulement joué rapidement en AHL et dut rentrer en Europe car sa fille en bas âge avait de sérieux problèmes de santé, ce qui ne lui permettait pas de se consacrer totalement au hockey.
Retraité en 2009, il a possédé un petit bar-restaurant. Devenu ensuite entraîneur de juniors.
