High-energy player who played with a lot of intensity. Formed a very good line with Manfred Ahne and Markus Berwanger, known as the "AKB line".
His first coach in SB Rosenheim, Czech Pavel Wohl, emphasized the importance of team play and that "one is nothing without the other". This advice was something that Kammerer stuck to throughout his playing career. Played a total of 883 career league games, scoring 633 points (289+344).
Retired in 2000. Became a head coach in Italy and German lower divisions (mainly in his native Bavaria). He also coached children an Under 8 SC Reichersbeuern football team which included his son Max and future pro hockey player Julian Kornelli, which he convinced to play hockey.
Inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame.

Joueur enthousiaste et plein d'énergie qui disputait chaque match comme le dernier. Formait à Rosenheim une ligne redoutable avec ses collègues Manfred Ahne et Markus Berwanger, la "AKB".
Leur entraîneur là-bas, le Tchécoslovaque Pavel Wohl, insistait sur la notion de collectif, rappelant qu'on n'est rien sans l'aide de son partenaire. On peut dire que Kammerer fut l'illustration vivante de ce dicton. 883 matches de championnat allemand, 633 points (289+344) jusqu'à la fin de sa carrière en 2000.
Devenu entraîneur principal en Italie un peu, en Allemagne surtout, dans son Land natal de Bavière (Bad Tölz, Landshut). Il a aussi entraîné l'équipe de football des moins de 8 ans du SC Reichersbeuern qui incluait son fils Max mais aussi Julian Kornelli, qu'il a convaincu de jouer au hockey et qui y est devenu professionnel.
Introduit au Hall of Fame du hockey allemand.
