Carletto Mai was born in Italy but grew up in Arvigo and Davos, Switzerland.
Italian parents. His father Pasquale was a construction engineer. He also had an older brother and sister.
He was a solid but unspectacular defenseman who represented Switzerland 10 times.
Not particularly big physically but had good balance on his skates.
Between 1938 and 1940 he was the club president of his old club HC Davos.
Was a referee at the 1939 World Championships.

Carletto Mai est né en Italie mais a grandi entre Arvigo et Davos, en Suisse.
Né de parents italiens. Son père Pasquale était ingénieur dans la construction. Il avait un frère aîné et une soeur.
Défenseur solide mais peu spectaculaire, qui fut sélectionné 10 fois avec la Suisse.
Pas particulièrement costaud physiquement mais il possédait un bon équilibre sur ses patins.
Entre 1938 et 1940 il fut président de son ancien club du HC Davos.
Arbitre lors des Mondiaux de 1939.
