Son of Russian hockey player Albert Malgin who played in Switzerland for many years.
Younger brother of Dmitri Malgin (Swiss player). Started skating and playing hockey at the age of three.
Spent every summer in Perm, Russia (were his grandparents live) in his youth. Fluent both in Russian and Swiss-German.
Emerged as a diminutive, slick offensive forward as a junior.
Wealth of skill and puck-handling ability. Creative offensive player with excellent playmaking acumen.
Very mobile and elusive forward with a thousand moves.
Undersized at the NHL-level and with average strength at best. Not always shooting enough.
He was shortly blacklisted for Swiss national team because he refused once to join the team but got pardoned in 2020. He became the Swiss best scorer during 2022 World Championships.

Fils du joueur de hockey russe Albert Malgin qui joua en Suisse plusieurs années.
Frère cadet de Dmitri Malgin (joueur suisse). Il a commencé à patiner et à pratiquer le hockey à l'âge de trois ans.
Dans sa jeunesse, il passait tous ses étés à Perm (ville russe où habitent encore ses grands-parents) et parle couramment à la fois le russe et le suisse allemand.
Apparu en junior par son talent offensif, il possède une palette de gestes techniques et des aptitudes à conserver le palet.
Attaquant créatif avec un coup de patin très fluide et facile. Très mobile et insaisissable grâce à sa technique.
Petit pour la NHL (1m75), avec une force limitée, il ne lance pas assez à la cage.
Un temps sur une liste noire de la fédération suisse après avoir refusé une sélection, il fut pardonné en 2020 avant le Mondial à domicile (qui fut annulé par la pandémie de Covid-19) et redevint sélectionnable. Mieux même, il fut le meilleur marqueur suisse aux championnats du monde 2022.
60 points (28+32) en 192 parties de saison régulière de NHL.
