Born in Bærum but grew up in Trondheim between the age of six and fifteen. His biological father was born in Uganda and was of Ugandan and Indian heritage. Martinsen never met his biological father and grew up with his stepfather. He first played football (soccer) but tried playing hockey as an eight year old and got hooked.
Good-sized and tough forward with a quick and hard shot. Not afraid of the physical aspects in a game.
North American style going straight to the net. Decent hands and speed.
Sometimes playing too reckless in the hunt for a big hit.

Né à Bærum, il a grandi à Trondheim entre six et quinze ans. Martinsen n'a jamais connu son père biologique - né en Ouganda d'origines ougandaises et indiennes - et a été élevé par son beau-père. Il a d'abord joué au football mais a essayé le hockey à huit ans et a adoré.
Attaquant de bonne taille et rugueux avec un lancer rapide et puissant. Aucune crainte pour l'aspect physique du jeu.
Un style nord-américain le conduisant droit à la cage. Bonne vitesse et bonnes mains.
Un jeu parfois trop téméraire à la recherche d'une grosse charge.
