Born and raised in Riga and played for many years with various clubs in the city, most notably for Dinamo Riga in the KHL.
Stayed loyal to Riga as a third or fourth line winger for more than a decade. Captained the team in 2016/17.
Also represented Latvia at the Olympics and World Championships in a similar role.
