Metropolit, Glen David

Position : RW

25-06-1974 Toronto, ON, CAN

Youth team / club formateur : Richmond Hill Riot

Glen Metropolit grew up in the tough Toronto neighborhood of Regent Park, one of the most notorious and densely populated projects in Canada.
Regent Park was once described by a local newspaper this way: "Living here is like getting kicked in the teeth."
According to Metropolit’s estimation he moved about 50 times when he was a kid, including foster homes. His upbringing was surrounded by drugs, poverty and addiction.
His biological father, Marty McGee, was an ex-Hell’s Angels biker and his mother, Linda Hachey was just 17 when she became pregnant with Glen. She later met Bruce Metropolit, the biological father of Troy Metropolit, Glen’s half-brother. The only time the brothers saw Bruce was when they visited him in jail.
His half-brother, Troy, later served 16 years in prison for kidnapping a lawyer and then killing an inmate.
Glen Metropolit was a player who always had an abundance of self-confidence.
He was dangerous around the net and had a quick release of his wrist shot.
Fine playmaker with a wide range of skills. Good work ethic and never afraid to bump and grind along the corners.
Perfect third liner in the NHL. Spent a decade playing in Europe. Played in Finland, Switzerland, Germany and Italy.
Before the 2011/12 season he was on his way to sign a one-year deal for $1,2 million with Yaroslavl in the KHL. Luckily for him, his then-wife refused to go, so he re-signed with his Zug team for $400,000. That September, the entire Yaroslavl team died in a plane crash that killed 44 people.
Retired in 2017 at 43. Settled in Florida where his ex-wife and children live. Opened a yoga studio and worked as a private coach. But he missed hockey and became coach in 2022.
