First national team player from Oryol, a 300,000 city between Moscow and Ukraine where the first ice palace was built in 2007.
Aleksandr first played football as a goaltender, but his parents switched him to ice hockey.
His father, a master of sports in boxing, had already taught him to skate beforehand. His mother is a gymnast.
At the age of 12, he went to his uncle, a former basketball player, to develop his skills in Moscow hockey clubs.
Excellent skating and mobility for his big size (193 cm, 98 kg). Cold-blooded first pass under pressure. Very strong slapshot.
An offensive defenceman who likes to join the attacking play and displays good on-ice vision. Extremely fast hands for a blueliner.
He can play tough hockey and deliver well-timed hard hits but has some flaws with positional defense.
Before 2020/21 season he had some heart problems in preseason medical testing and Spartak sent him to Germany for in-depth examination. The doctors there cleared him to play but IIHF refused to give him clearance to play in World junior championships.
Thus he hadn't play any World junior championship before winning an Olympic silver medal at 20.

Aleksandr avait débuté par le football, comme gardien, mais ses parents l'ont fait passer au hockey.
Son père, diplômé comme maître des sports en boxe, lui avait auparavant appris à patiner. Sa mère était gymnaste.
À 12 ans, il est parti à Moscou chez son oncle, un ancien basketteur, pour se développer dans les clubs de la capitale.
Excellent patineur pour son gabarit (193 cm, 98 kg). Relance pleine de sang-froid sous la pression. Slap très puissant.
Ce défenseur offensif aime se joindre aux attaques avec une bonne vision du jeu et des mains extrêmement rapides pour un arrière.
Il pratique aussi un jeu physique avec des mises en échec dures et bien coordonnées, mais a plus de difficultés dans le placement défensif.
Avant la saison 2020/21, un test médical révèle des problèmes cardiaques et le staff du Spartak l'envoie passer un exament complet en Allemagne. Les médecins l'y déclarent aptes au sport, mais l'IIHF refuse de l'autoriser à jouer le Mondial junior qui suit.
Il n'avait donc joué aucune compétition internationale junior avant de remporter la médaille d'argent olympique à 20 ans.
En couple avec la championne du monde de natation synchronisée Varvara Subbotina depuis 2021.
