Born in Valbo but grew up in Hemlingby. Older brother of Carl-Göran Öberg.
Multitalented sportsman who also became a Swedish bandy champion in 1959.
Nicknamed “Stöveln” (Boot) because he allegedly always walked around with knee high boots as a little kid.
Not very fast skater but creative and smart player. Had a very deceptive wristshot.
He loved to skate in from the left side and turn in against the goal sharply, bulging the twine with a high shot.
In his early years he was known to play with a yellow knitted hood/cap/hat.
In 1957 he was the second player to win Guldpucken (The Golden Puck), awarded annually to the ice hockey player of the year in Sweden.
His jersey hangs from the rafters in Nynäshallen in Gävle.
Represented Sweden 162 times. Scored 233 goals in 206 league games. Retired in 1963.
Owned and operated a sporting goods-store called Stöveln Öbergs cykel-och sportaffär.
Inducted into the Swedish Hockey Hall of Fame.
Passed away peacefully at the age of 82.

Né à Valbo, il a grandi à Hemlingby. Frère aîné de Carl-Göran Öberg.
Sportif polyvalent qui fut champion de Suède de bandy en 1959.
Surnommé “Stöveln” (Bottes) puisqu'il portait toujours de grandes bottes quand il était enfant.
Pas le patineur le plus rapide mais un joueur créatif et intelligent.
Son tir du poignet était très trompeur. Il adorait patiner depuis le côté gauche puis repiquer vers la cage en faisant trembler le filet d'un lancer puissant.
Dans ses jeunes années il était connu pour jouer avec un bonnet jaune.
En 1957 il fut le deuxième joueur à remporter le "Guldpucken" (palet d'or) de joueur de l'année en Suède.
Son maillot est suspendu au Nynäshallen de Gävle.
162 sélections avec la Suède. 233 buts en 206 matchs de championnat.
Retraité en 1963. Intronisé au temple de la renommée du hockey suédois.
Il a possédé et tenu un magasin d'articles de sport appelé "Stöveln Öbergs cykel-och sportaffär".
Décédé paisiblement à l'âge de 82 ans.
