Father of Thomas Åhlén. A constructive and fast skating forward.
Began playing for Strömsbro IF before moving to Gävle in 1951.
In 1957 he won both the Swedish league title and the World Championships.
Represented Sweden 20 times. Died of a heart attack at a league game when his son scored a goal. Worked as a carpenter during his playing days.

Père de Thomas Åhlén. Attaquant rapide et créatif.
A joué au Strömsbro IF jusqu'à ses 22 ans avant d'arriver à Gävle en 1951.
Ce transfert lui permit, six ans plus tard, de remporter en l'espace de quelques semaines le championnat de Suède et le championnat du monde. Quand il ne patinait pas, il gagnait sa vie en tant que charpentier.
Vingt sélections en équipe de Suède. Décédé d'une attaque cardiaque pendant une rencontre de championnat où son fils inscrit un but.
