Born in Fredrikstad, Norway, and then moved to Oslo as a child. He was brought to the United States by his parents at an early age. He starred as a quarterback in football and a shortstop in baseball as well as hockey player at Swampscott High, where he graduated from in 1926.
His hockey career as a senior spanned for 18 years, mainly in the EAHL (Atlantic City Seagulls & Boston Olympics). Played very well at the 1931 World Championships and was one of the better players of the tournament. Technically skilled player with good hands.
Also played as a forward. Scored almost 300 career points in over 700 games. Retired in 1947. Coached the Swampscott High School team from 1948, and won the North Shore League championships in 1958, 1959 and 1963. He lived in Swampscott, MA, but passed away of pancreatic cancer at the AtlantiCare Medical Center in Lynn, MA at the age of 80.

Né à Fredrikstad en Norvège, il vécut quelques années à Oslo avant, encore enfant, de rejoindre ses parents aux États-Unis. Il y restera toute sa vie, changera son prénom d'Asbjörn en Osborne et prendra le surnom "Ty". Pour parfaire son assimilation, il jouera quarterback au football américain, shortstop au baseball et excellera au hockey sur glace, le tout dans son université de Swampscott High, dont il sortira diplômé en 1926.
Son parcours en hockey senior, long de presque deux décennies, prendra racine en EAHL (sous le maillot des Atlantic City Seagulls puis des Boston Olympics). Il participa tout de même à deux compétitions mondiales pour les États-Unis, se signalant comme un des meilleurs joueurs des championnats du monde 1931, doué techniquement et doté de bonnes mains.
Ses qualités permettaient aussi de l'aligner à l'avant, au point qu'il inscrivit presque 300 points en plus de 700 matches. Prit sa retraite en 1947, à 39 ans, et entraîna l'équipe universitaire de Swampscott High. Avec succès puisqu'il remportera trois éditions des North Shore League championships (1958, 1959 et 1963). Citoyen de la même ville de Swampscott, dans l'État du Massachussetts, Andersen décéda d'un cancer du pancréas à l'âge de 80 ans.
