Oldest of three brothers who all played ice hockey. Was of Jewish descent.
A calm goalie with good concentration. Had an unorthodox playing style.
In his first international appearance for Berliner SC on December 13, 1929, he shut out Oxford University. On top of that his two brothers, Rudi and Heinz played alongside him in that game. Later on all three brothers played together in St.Moritz and Milan.
Gerhard also played for London Lions and finished his playing career in SG Eichamp Berlin 1948. Won the German championship twice, the British once and also won the Spengler Cup.
Moved to South Africa with his younger brother Rudi in 1948, and settled in Cape Town.
The third brother Heinz had already lived in South Africa for ten years. Later moved to Spain.

L'ainé de trois frères qui ont tous joué au hockey. Il était d'origine juive.
Un gardien calme avec une bonne concentration. Il avait un style de jeu peu académique.
Pour sa première apparition internationale avec le Berliner SC le 13 décembre 1929, il fit un blanchissage face à l'Université d'Oxford. En plus de cela ses deux frères, Rudi et Heinz ont également joué cette rencontre. Plus tard les trois frères ont rejoué ensemble à St.Moritz et Milan.
Gerhard a également joué pour les London Lions et a terminé sa carrière au SG Eichamp Berlin 1948. Il a remporté le championnat allemand deux fois, le championnat britannique une fois et il a aussi remporté la Coupe Spengler.
Il est parti en Afrique du Sud avec son jeune frère Rudi en 1948, et s'installa à Cape Town.
Son autre frère Heinz vivait déjà en Afrique du Sud depuis dix ans. Il s'installa plus tard en Espagne.
