Relied on his fast reflexes and sound angle play. A standup goalie. A showman who liked to make spectacular saves.
Also known to skate all the way out to the blueline, intercepting passes or just playing the puck, earning him the nickname „der Torhüter auf Reisen“ (The traveling goaltender).
Carried a notebook with him. In it he had noted the weaknesses and strengths of all the top players in the league. Played briefly in Canada (St.Catharines).
Had to retire in 1971 because of an eye injury sustained in a game.
He was hit in the eye from a shot by Peter Wespi and took 24 stitches but played on.
It was later discovered that he had a detached retina and was never able to play again.
First worked as a carpenter and then in the hotel business for 26 years.

Il s'appuyait sur ses réflexes rapides et la couverture de ses angles. Gardien debout. Un "showman" qui adorait faire des arrêts spectaculaires.
Il était également connu pour le fait de patiner jusqu'à la ligne bleue, pour intercepter des passes ou juste jouer le palet, ce qui lui valu le surnom de "Torhüter auf Reisen" (gardien voyageur).
Il possédait toujours un carnet avec lui. Dans celui-ci il notait les forces et faiblesses des meilleurs joueurs du championnat. Il a joué brièvement au Canada (St.Catherines).
Forcé à la retraite en 1971 à cause d'une blessure à l'oeil en match. Un lancer de Peter Wespi dans son oeil lui a valut 24 points de suture, mais il continua la rencontre. On diagnostiqua ensuite un décollement de la rétine et il ne fut plus jamais en mesure de rejouer.
Il débuta comme charpentier avant de travailler dans l'hôtellerie pendant 26 ans.
