His greatgrandparents came from Bavaria in Germany as well as Ireland from his mothers side.
He was the grandson of Aloyes Bauer who founded Bauer industries.
His older brother Bobby Bauer was a star in the NHL and his other brother was Father David Bauer. Had a total of five brothers and five sisters.
Served in WW II and played with R.C.A.F. Manning Depot in Toronto.
Later stationed in Goose Bay, Labrador where he played during the 1944/45 season.
Retired after the 1949 World Championships. Was the assistant coach when Kitchener-Waterloo Dutchmen won the Allan Cup in 1953. He went on to become president of Bauer Industries.
In 1967 he bought an English style Manor House in Waterloo, built in 1913.
It became known as the Seagram-Bauer house. It was originally built for Thomas Seagram in 1913. He was the son of distilling magnate Joseph Seagram. Bauer is buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Kitchener, ON.

Il était le petit fils d'Aloyes Bauer qui a fondé les industries Bauer.
Son grand frère Bobby Bauer fut une star dans la NHL et un autre de ses frères devint le Père David Bauer. Il eut au total cinq frères et cinq soeurs.
Il fut engagé durant la Seconde guerre mondiale et joua avec le R.C.A.F. Manning Depot à Toronto.
Plus tard il fut basé à Goose Bay, Labrador, où il joua lors de la saison 1944/45.
Retraité après les Mondiaux de 1949. Il était entraîneur assistant quand les Dutchmen de Kitchener-Waterloo remporta l'Allan Cup en 1953. Puis il devint président des industries Bauer.
In 1967 il acheta un manoir de style britannique à Waterloo, construit en 1913.
Cela devint connu comme la maison Seagram-Bauer. Elle fut à l'origine construite pour Thomas Seagram en 1913. C'était le fils du magnat de la distallation Joseph Seagram. Bauer est enterré au cimetière de Mount Hope à Kitchener, dans l'Ontario.
