Full blooded Ojibwa (Chippewa) Indian. Gifted athlete who also excelled in football, baseball and track.
Was considered a sure-fire NHL-prospect. Used to play as a goalie, defenseman, and later settled down as a forward, becoming a strong penalty killer.
Good scorer with a powerful shot, especially his backhand.
Smooth player who used his speed to his advantage, good at cutting in sharp angles to avoid opponents.
Served in the U.S. Army when he played for the National team. Popular player who got along well with everyone at the 1972 Olympics.
First NHL player to wear a headband, which became his trademark.
Suffered an eventual career-ending eye injury (cracked bone) from a high stick vs Boston Bruins on Jan.4, 1975.
Scored 472 (246+226) career points in 511 games. Inducted into the US Hockey Hall of Fame.
Went into real estate business after his retirement from hockey in 1977. Also worked in business development for the Alaska Manufacturing Extension Partnership.

Il était considéré comme un prospect NHL infaillible. Il fut d'abord gardien, puis défenseur et s'installa ensuite comme attaquant, fort en en infériorité numérique.
Bon scoreur avec un lancer puissant, en particulier du revers.
Joueur fluide qui s'appuyait sur sa vitesse et savait couper en angle serré pour éviter les adversaires.
Il servait dans l'U.S. Army quand il jouait pour la sélection américaine. Joueur populaire qui s'entendait avec tout le monde lors des JO 1972.
Le premier joueur en NHL à porter un bandeau, ce qui deviendra sa marque de fabrique.
Il a subi une blessure à l'oeil engageant finakement sa fin de carrière sur une crosse haute lors d'un match contre les Bruins de Boston le 4 janvier 1975.
472 (246+226) points en 511 matchs dans sa carrière. Intronisé au US Hockey Hall of Fame.
Il travailla dans les affaires immobilières après sa retraite du hockey en 1977 et posséda aussi un bar-restaurant à Warroad.
