Colourful and flashy winger who once played briefly with legendary Milt Schmidt on one line.
Never gave up on a play and was particularly dangerous around the net.
Sustained many injuries just by battling hard for the pucks.
He was rugged and thrived when the play was rough.
During the 1938 World Championships he scored the tying goal against Germany, in which he broke up on the left wing, held his shot, went right in close and through terrific willpower carried the goaltender, puck and all with him into the goal. Packed a hard shot.
Later joined the Boston Bruins in the NHL. Served with the Canadian Army during WW II and won the Allan Cup with the Ottawa Army Commandos.
After D-day he returned to London where he was attached to movement control of Canadian military headquarters.
When he returned back from overseas he was greeted by his family, including his two year old daughter that he had never seen, as she was born when he was overseas.
Scored 501 (245+256) career points in 603 games. Retired in 1951.

Ailier étincelant et haut en couleurs qui a déjà joué une fois sur la même ligne que le légendaire Milt Schmidt.
Il ne baissait jamais les bras dans le jeu et était particulièrement redoutable près de la cage.
Il contracta de nombreuses blessures juste par sa combativité dans la bataille du palet.
Il se montrait rugueux quand le jeu était dur.
Durant les Mondiaux de 1938 il a inscrit le but égalisateur contre l'Allemagne, sur lequel il quitta son aile gauche, retint son tir et partit droit devant avec une grosse volonté si bien qu'il emporta tout sur son passage : le palet, le gardien et la cage. Il avait un lancer puissant.
Plus tard il a rejoint les Bruins de Boston en NHL. Il a servi dans l'Armée canadienne durant la Seconde guerre mondiale et remporta la Coupe Allan avec les Ottawa Army Commandos.
Après le débarquement il a rejoint Londres où il fut attaché au contrôle des mouvements du quartier général militaire canadien.
Quand il rentra il fut salué par sa famille, notamment sa fille de deux ans qu'il n'avait jamais vu, car elle était née quand il était outre-Atlantique.
Auteur de 501 (245+256) points en carrière en 603 matchs. Retraité en 1951.
13 points (4+9) en 28 parties de saison régulière de NHL.
