Davies, John Francis

Position : D

14-07-1928 Edmonton, AB, CAN
19-01-2009 Edmonton, AB, CAN

Always got the support from home when it came to his hockey career.
His dad was behind him 100% and his older brother Ken played junior hockey with Edmonton Capitals. Jack Davies was a product of the Canadian Athletic Club and South Side Athletic Association hockey programs and as a junior played a mature game beyond his years.
The 18-year old Davies impressed scouts and signed a contract with Cleveland Barons of the American Hockey League in November 1946. He got a tryout with the strong Cleveland team later on but never made the squad.
Spent his entire career playing for various teams in Edmonton, being a member of the Mercurys since 1949. Considered playing at the 1952 Winter Olympics to be the highlight of his career. It wasn’t his first trip to Europe though, as he had won the World Championships in 1950 representing Canada with Edmonton.
Was known to be a very private person who never talked about his accomplishments as a player.
Passed away on January 19, 2009 in Edmonton, AB.
