Was of Jewish origin. His father was born in Oss, Netherlands where many from his family came from. His mother was born in Weener, Germany.
He first learned to play ice hockey in Haarlem where he played for the local club Bloemendaal in the late 1920s and early 30s.
Worked as a merchant. He married Sonja Rita Swaap in Amsterdam 1938. In November 1939 their daughter, Wilhelmina Monika Elly was born. They had another child soon thereafter.
In the summer of 1942 he and his wife were taken from their home in Schoorl (Northern Holland) by the Germans and were deported to Auschwitz. Both he and his wife were killed in an Auschwitz gas chamber on the same day.
His mother was also killed in Auschwitz one year later. His sister also died in a concentration camp, and his younger brother died in 1948 only 41 years old. Both children survived.

D'origine juive. Son père est né à Oss, ville des Pays-Bas d'où venait beaucoup de membres de sa famille. Sa mère est née à Weener, en Allemagne.

Travaillait comme marchand. Il a épousé Sonja Rita Swaap à Amsterdam en 1938. Leur fille Wilhelmina Monika Elly est née en novembre 1939. Ils ont eu un autre enfant peu après.
À l'été 1942, il a été arrêté avec sa femme dans leur maison de Schoorl (Hollande-Septentrionale) par les Allemands et déporté à Auschwitz. Les deux époux ont été tués dans une chambre à gaz d'Auschwitz le même jour.
Sa mère a aussi été tuée à Auschwitz un an plus tard. Sa soeur est également morte dans un camp de concentration, et son jeune frère est mort en 1948 à seulement 41 ans. Ses deux enfants ont survécu.
