His father Heinrich owned a restaurant in Opava (Troppau in German), where Adolf learnt ice hockey with the Troppauer EV.
In 1931 he went to Brno to study mechanical engineering and played there for German-speaking club (Brünner EV) when he was called into national team after star Maleček had injured.
Was a substitute player but got to play when Dorasil and Pušbauer got injured too. He was the youngest Czechoslovak international at 17.
As a German, he was drafted into the Wehrmacht, but when the Nazis found out he was of Jewish origin, they put him into jail.
The family had agreed they should meet in Klagenfurt (the city Adolf's mother Paula came from) after the war and he played there with another Opava/Troppau player, Alfred Mattern.
After his hockey career, the engineer moved to Germany. Lived first in Augsburg, then in Essen, where he trained the local team. His son Martin and his grandson also played ice hockey in Germany in their youth.

Son père Heinrich était propriétaire d'un bar-restaurant à Opava (Troppau en allemand), dans les Sudètes, où Adolf a appris le hockey au Troppauer EV.
En 1931 il est parti étudier le génie mécanique à Brno et y a joué pour le club germanophone local (Brünner EV) où il fut appelé en équipe nationale après l'accident de ski de Josef Maleček.
D'abord substitut, il fut aligné après les blessures de Dorasil et Pušbauer et devint le plus jeune international tchécoslovaque à 17 ans.
Cet Allemand des Sudètes prénommé Adolf fut naturellement incorporé dans la Wehrmacht... jusqu'à ce que les Nazis se rendent compte de ses origines juives et le mettent en prison. Son frère Erwin et sa soeur Adelhaid (comme infirmière) ont combattu dans les bataillons tchécoslovaques de l'armée rouge.
Sentant que les temps deviendraient difficiles, la famille juive avait convenu de se retrouver après la guerre à Klagenfurt (ville d'origine de Paula, la mère d'Adolf) où il a joué avec un autre joueur d'Opava/Troppau, Alfred Mattern.
Après avoir raccroché les patins, l'ingénieur a déménagé à Augsbourg, puis à Essen, où il entraîna l'équipe locale. Son fils Martin et son petit-fils ont aussi joué au hockey sur glace en Allemagne dans leur jeunesse.
