He was born and raised in Guelph before moving to Stratford to work as an apprentice with the Canadian National Railway. Was also an excellent amateur baseball player.
Was a Boston Bruins prospect, but a wrist injury kept him out of the NHL. Formed a dangerous line with Dennis Flanagan and Lyle Roth.
He was known for his swift skating, smooth stickhandling and hard shot.
Scored 949 (430+519) career points in 776 games. Was a boilermaker in the CNR's Stratford shops. Retired in 1962.

Ce natif de Guelph dans l'Ontario a tôt déménagé à Stratford, dans la même province, pour devenir apprenti dans les chemins de fer canadiens et y exercer le métier de chaudronnier.
Les Bruins suivirent de près sa progression mais le jeune Bill se blessa au poignet, ce qui l'écarta à jamais de la NHL. Faisait des étincelles sur une ligne avec Dennis Flanagan et Lyle Roth.
Il était réputé pour son patinage rapide, sa technique de crosse fluide et son tir puissant.
949 points (430+519) en 776 matches d'une carrière achevée en 1962. Également brillant au base-ball.
