Born in Sudbury & Gatchell, ON, Canada, before joining the Italian National Team for the 1956 Olympics. Also played American football in the 1950s.
His birthplace is incorrectly given as Bolzano, Italy. There’s confusion with his first name as he was born as Ronald Furlani, but later also used John Furlani and the Italian version Giovanni Furlani.
He worked as a health inspector in Canada. He was knon for his sense of humour and had four children and six grandchildren in Canada.

Né à Sudbury & Gatchell dans la province d'Ontario au Canada, où il joua au football américain pendant sa jeunesse, il rejoindra l'Italie de ses origines à l'occasion des JO 1956 de Cortina d'Ampezzo.
Sa biographie prête à confusion: on l'a donné par natif de Bolzano, dans le Haut-Adige, par méprise. Furlani s'est fait appeler Ronald, son prénom officiel à l'état civil canadien, puis John, puis l'équivalent italien, Giovanni.
Il travailla comme contrôleur d'hygiène alimentaire au Canada. Connu pour son sens de l'humour, il eut quatre enfants et six petits-enfants au Canada.
