Learned his hockey in North America while growing up there.
His mother died when he was only four years old. He had three older brothers, two of them (Hermann and Felix) later moved to USA.
His oldest brother Max died in the late 1890s, before his 20th birthday.
Didn’t always go along with his teammates who sometimes didn’t like his selfish play.
Strong on the puck and liked to go straight on goal.
Also noted as a very tough player (by European standards).
Was a German champion in figure skating 1911 (pairs). Was a factory worker.

Il a appris le hockey en Amérique du nord où il a grandi.
Sa mère décède quand il a 4 ans. Il avait 3 grands frères, deux d’entre eux (Hermann and Felix) se sont installés aux États-Unis.
Son frère aîné Max décède à la fin des années 1890, avant son vingtième anniversaire.
Il n'était pas toujours apprécié de ses coéquipiers qui lui reprochaient parfois son jeu égoïste.
Fort avec le palet et appréciant aller directement au but.
Reconnu comme un joueur dur (d’après les standards européens).
Champion d'Allemagne de patinage artistique en couple en 1911. Il était ouvrier en usine.
