Born in what was Russia back then (Dombrovka), but was adopted to Prague as a little boy.
Great allround sportsman. Aside from ice hockey he also played tennis, was a sprinter, speedskater and skier.
His versitality was evident when he played at the 1922 European Championships as a defenseman, eleven years after having yielded just one goal in three games as a goalie at the 1911 European Championships.
He won three gold medals at the European Championships. Was originally chosen as the backup goalie for the 1923 European Championships but couldn’t go for personal reasons.
He was a guest of honour at the 1947 World Championships together with other pioneer members of Czechoslovakian hockey.

Né dans ce qui était alors l'Empire russe (Dombrovka), il a été adopté à Prague quand il était encore un petit garçon.
Grand sportif complet. En dehors du hockey sur glace, il jouait aussi au tennis et était sprinter, patineur de vitesse et skieur.
Sa polyvalence était évidente quand il a disputé les championnats d'Europe 1922 comme défenseur, onze ans après avoir cédé un seul but en trois rencontres en tant que gardien aux championnats d'Europe 1911.
Trois fois médaillé d'or en trois championnats d'Europe. Il avait été choisi à l'origine comme deuxième gardien aux championnats d'Europe 1923 mais n'a pas pu s'y rendre pour raisons personnelles.
Il était invité d'honneur aux championnats du monde 1947 en compagnie d'autres pionniers du hockey tchécoslovaque.
