Could play on all three forward positions, but was mainly a center.
Useful team player and good at assignments to shadow opposing players.
Born in Weyburn, SK but started playing his minor league hockey for the Foam Lake Flyers (SAHA-I) from 1958 through 1961.
He played for Melville Millionaires and Estevan Bruins in SJHL. Was voted as SJHL’s most gentlemanly player in 1964.
He spent four seasons playing for Father David Bauer’s Team Canada.
In the early 1970s he was in the Toronto Maple Leafs system and played professional hockey in the CHL, WHL and WHA.
A badly broken ankle put an end to his pro career. He eventually played senior hockey with Nelson Maple Leafs and retired in 1977.
Worked as a school teacher. For almost 20 years he also acted as the Provincial Coach for the British Columbia Amateur Hockey Association, overseeing all the programs province-wide. He did a lot of work to develop amateur ice hockey in Canada.
Since 2006, B.C. Hockey has given out the Ted Hargreaves Scholarship to young ice hockey players who also excel academically.

Il pouvait jouer aux trois positions offensivement, mais était principalement un centre.
Joueur utile à qui l'on pouvait confier la tâche de suivre un adversaire comme son ombre.
Né à Weyburn dans le Saskatchewan, il a toutefois joué son hockey mineur pour les Foam Lake Flyers (SAHA-I) de 1958 à 1961.
Il a joué pour les Melville Millionaires et les Estevan Bruins en SJHL. Élu joueur le plus gentleman de la SJHL en 1964.
Il a passé quatre saisons dans le Team Canada du Père David Bauer.
Au début des années 1970, il était dans le système des Toronto Maple Leafs et a joué au hockey professionnel en CHL, WHL et WHA.
Une mauvaise fracture de la cheville a mis un terme à sa carrière pro. Il a finalement joué au hockey senior avec les Nelson Maple Leafs et a pris sa retraite en 1977.
Il a travaillé comme professeur des écoles. Pendant près de 20 ans il fut aussi entraîneur provincial de la fédération amateur de Colombie-Britannique, supervisant tous les programmes de la province. Il a beaucoup fait pour développer le hockey amateur au Canada.
Depuis 2006 (l'année suivant son décès), la fédération de Colombie-Britannique remet la bourse Ted Hargreaves à de jeunes hockeyeurs qui excellent également dans leurs études.
