His father, also named Robert Anthony Heavern [1892-1952], was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and his mother was from Massachusetts, USA.
Was the oldest of four children and had a younger sister and two younger brothers.
He enlisted in the Marine Corps 1943 and was discharged in 1946. Listed at 180 cm (5'11") and 79 kg (175 lbs).
Played hockey for Northern Cambridge in 1947/48. Also played football.
He was also a good baseball player who was an All-Greater Boston baseball All Star in 1942 and 1943 while playing for Cambridge Latin School. Was a second baseman.
In October 1947 he was signed to a professional baseball contract by Boston Braves. During his first pro season he had hits in 31 straight games.
Had four daughters and one son. His son [1949-2014] also played hockey, had the same name and became a state senator in MA.
Bob Heavern II went on to use the last name of Havern later on.

En octobre 1947 il a signé un contrat professionnel de baseball avec les Boston Braves. Au cours de sa première saison pro, il a réussi des coups sûrs pendant 31 matches d'affilée.
Il a eu quatre filles et un fils. Le fils [1949-2014] a aussi joué au hockey, portait le même nom et est devenu Sénateur d'État dans le Massachussets.
Bob Heavern II utilisait le nom de "Havern" à la fin de sa vie.
