Emerged as a very talented defenseman. Played for the Duluth East High School and was one of five finalists for the prestigious Mr.Minnesota Hockey Award, given annually to the top prep player in the state.
Hard-nosed defender with an excellent shot from the point. Good poise when he played on the power play.
Effective when he kept the game simple and could log a ton of ice time. Prone to occasional mental blunders and could put himself out of position in search of a big open-ice hit.
On April 20, 2007, Hill became the first player to be suspended (mandatory 20 games) for abusing the performance-enhancing substance policy the NHL and NHLPA had put in place.
Hill passed both a lie detector test and independent drug test regarding his substance abuse (boldenone, an anabolic steroid). Retired in 2009.

Très talentueux dans sa jeunesse. Il a joué pour le lycée Duluth East et était l'un des cinq finalistes du prestigieux trophée "Mr.Minnesota Hockey", donné annuellement au meilleur joueur lycée de l'État.
Défenseur intransigeant avec un bon tir de la ligne bleue et du sang froid en supériorité numérique.
Efficace quand il gardait le jeu simple et avait un gros temps de glace. Sujet à des erreurs mentales occasionnelles et à se retrouver hors de position en cherchant une belle mise en échec.
Le 20 avril 2007, Hill est devenu le premier joueur suspendu (sanction obligatoire de 20 rencontres) pour infraction à la politique anti-dopage mise en place par la NHL et la NHLPA.
Hill est passé au détecteur de mensonges et a passé un test indépendant après son contrôle positif à la boldenone (un stéroïde anabolisant). Il a pris sa retraite en 2009.
