First started off as a forward. Later switched to defense and became a talented blueliner with a booming shot. Used to quarterback powerplays.
Voted Czech player of the year in 1993 when he broke the league record for most goals by a defenseman in one season.
Had a +14 rating at the 1993 World Championships.
Missed 1996-97 and 1997-98 due to treatment for Chronic Granulocytic Leukemia. He needed a life-saving bone marrow transplant. A donor was found after four months and after the surgery there were follow-up complications which included problems with his heart, kidney and gall bladder. He was hospitalized for 8 months and lost 27 kg (60 lbs).
During his illness he worked as expert for Czech TV during Nagano Olympic games.
He came back in November 1998 wih Vítkovice and had try-outs in the NHL with Anaheim and Atlanta.
Retired in 2000. Became an ice hockey coach, mostly for his home team Vítkovice.

Attaquant en début de carrière, converti en défenseur talentieux au tir percutant, organisateur du jeu en supériorité numérique.
Joueur tchèque de l’année en 1993 quand il a dépassé le record du championnat du nombre de buts pour un défenseur en une saison.
Avait un différentiel de +14 aux Mondiaux de 1993.
Il a loupé les saisons 1996/97 et 1997/98 à cause du traitement d’une leucémie chronique. Il avait besoin d’une greffe urgente de moëlle osseuse. Un donneur a été trouvé après 4 mois. Il a subi de nombreuses complications post-opératoires (cœur, rein, vésicule billiaire). Hospitalisé 8 mois, il a perdu 27 kilos.
Pendant sa maladie, il a apporté son expertise comme consultant pour la télévision tchèque lors des Jeux olympiques de Nagano.
Il a fait un retour avec Vítkovice en novembre 1998 et a essayé de revenir en NHL avec Anaheim (1998) et Atlanta (1999).
Retraité en 2000, il est devenu entraîneur, notamment pour son club de toujours Vítkovice.
16 points (5+11) en 49 parties de saison régulière de NHL.
