Well-schooled defenseman who played a very safe and reliable game in his own zone.
He liked to force the play in the defensive zone. Worked hard and contained the puck well.
Played smart and had very good anticipation. Rarely caught out of position.
Not the fastest skater around but not bad either and good enough to keep up with his opponents.
Formed a great tandem on defense with Paul Coffey in Edmonton.
He won the NHL Plus/Minus Award in 1983 and is the third highest playoff Plus/Minus player (behind Jari Kurri and Larry Robinson).
Was a five time Stanley Cup champion with the Edmonton Oilers.
Retired in 1997. Went on to work as an assistant coach in the NHL for several teams.

Défenseur bien éduqué qui jouait un jeu prudent et sûr dans sa zone.
Il aimait forcer le jeu dans la zone défensive. Travaillait dur et contenait bien le palet.
Jouait intelligemment et avait une très bonne anticipation. Rarement pris hors de position.
Il n’était pas le patineur le plus rapide mais n’était pas mauvais et suffisament pour suivre ses adversaires.
Formait un très bon tandem défensif avec Paul Coffey à Edmonton.
Il gagne le trophée Plus/Moins de la NHL en 1983 et il est le troisième joueur en playoffs en +/- (derrière Jari Kurri et Larry Robinson).
Quintuple vainqueur de la Coupe Stanley avec les Oilers d’Edmonton.
Retraité en 1997, il a travaillé comme entraîneur adjoint pour plusieurs équipes NHL.
453 (99+354) points en 1017 parties de saison régulière NHL.
