The most prominent of three ice hockey playing brothers. Older brother of Erik.
Fast and elusive skater who was Denmarks greatest star in the 1930s and 40s. Aggressive around the net.
Became a Latvian league champion two times for Unions Riga (1932 & 1933) before moving back to Denmark.
Played for Københavns SF and later coached that same team.
Was a marine officer in Aarhus 1940. Captained Denmark in 1949 and scored all of their goals at the World Championships that year, despite being a defenseman in two of three games.
Retired from ice hockey in 1961 at the age of 44. Later was a Lieutenant Commander and military attaché in Stockholm (1963).
Hviid's parents were Danish/German and he grew up in Riga together with his brother.
He was also keen on Yachting and won the military world championship in this discipline.
During the 1980 Summer Olympics, he led the Danish Yachting team at Tallinn.
In his last years as a marine officer, he commanded Kongeskibet (the Queen's ship) the greatest honour for a commander. 
Inducted into the IIHF Hockey Hall of Fame in the builders category.
Also inducted into the Danish Hockey Hall of Fame.

Le plus important des trois frères jouant au hockey. Frère aîné d'Erik.
Patineur rapide et agile qui fut la plus grande vedette du Danemark dans les années 1930 et 1940. Agressif près du filet.
Deux fois champion de Lettonie avec l’Unions Riga (1932 et 1933) avant de déménager au Danemark.
A joué pour le Københavns SF et l’a entraîné plus tard. Officier de marine à Aarhus en 1940.
Capitaine du Danemark en 1949, il a marqué tous les buts de son équipe dans ces championnats du monde, alors qu’il était défenseur pendant deux matchs.
Retraité du hockey en 1961 à 44 ans, plus tard Lieutenant-Commandant et attaché militaire à Stockholm (1963).
Les parents d’Hviid étaient danois et allemands et il a grandi à Riga avec son frère. Il était aussi passionné de navigation et a gagné le championnat mondial militaire dans cette catégorie.
Pendant les Jeux olympiques d’été de 1980, il a dirigé l’équipe danoise de voile à Tallinn.
Dans ses dernières années comme officier de marine, il a commandé le Kongeskibet (le navire de la Reine), le plus grand honneur pour un commandant.
Introduit au Temple de la renommée de l’IIHF dans la catégorie des bâtisseurs.
Également membre du Temple de la renommée du hockey danois.
