Born in Meziříčí just south of Prague and had four siblings (two brothers and two sisters). He was a physically big right wing who could play on all three forward positions. Exceptionally good scorer with one Europe’s best shots of that time.
Regarded as Europe’s most dangerous forward together with German Franz Lange before WW I. Fought in WW I and received a medal for bravery. Never played hockey again after WW I despite several attempts by his former teammates to lure him back. The years in the war left him a marked man. He was also an excellent rower. Represented Bohemia 12 times (17 goals, officially 16). Captained Bohemia in several tournaments, including the first ever in 1909.
Was an engineer by trade and worked as a confectionary chemist after his playing career. He have been confused for a long time with a namesake that also fought in WW I who was born July 8, 1881 in Rychnov nad Kněžnou and who died on September 30, 1926 in Dobruška.

Natif de la ville de Meziříčí, juste au sud de Prague, au milieu de deux frères et deux soeurs. Ailier droit très costaud qui pouvait occuper les autres postes de l'attaque. Buteur prolifique au lancer redoutable.
Un des meilleurs attaquants européens du tout début du siècle, seulement concurrencé par l'Allemand Franz Lange. Engagé sur le front de la Première guerre mondiale, il en revint décoré pour sa bravoure mais aussi marqué à vie, avec pour séquelle l'abandon du hockey sur glace malgré les exhortations de ses anciens équipiers. Il en restera sur 12 sélections avec l'équipe de Bohême (17 buts, officiellement 16) dont il fut souvent le capitaine, la première fois en 1909. Était également un excellent rameur.
Ingénieur dans le civil, il devint chimiste laborantin après sa carrière de joueur. Ne pas le confondre avec un homonyme né le 8 juillet 1881 à Rychnov nad Kněžnou et décédé le 30 septembre 1926 à Dobruška.
