Left Austria after the Anschluss into Nazi Germany in 1938.
Immigrated to New York in July 1938. Worked as a photographer there in the early 1940s.
Settled in Baltimore. Became U.S. citizen in July 1944, changing his name into Stephen Bruno Kahane.
