Studied at Princeton University. Spare center at the 1936 Olympics. Could also play on the right wing.
Was not only a good hockey player, but also one of the top amateur golfers in the United States. Won the New Jersey junior championship as well as the Walker Cup at St. Andrew's in Scotland 1947. He also won a Pro-Am golf tournament at Seminole in Palm Beach in 1961 paired with Arnold Palmer, with whom he matched strokes. Qualified and played in nine U.S. Amateur golf tournaments from 1935-64. Was the Country Club of Detroit champion 15 times.
Before his retirement, in 1981, he was Vice president of Essex Intl., in Detroit, originally Essex Wire Co., and electrical equipment manufacturing firm that supplied many of the electrical systems to Ford Motor Co. The company was founded by his grandfather. Earlier on, he had worked at Street & Finney and Time, Inc., in Manhattan.

Ce diplômé de Princeton dont il représenta l'équipe de hockey fut le centre de recours des USA aux JO 1936. Pouvait aussi occuper l'aile droite.
Cependant, c'est en golf que Fred Kammer Jr. s'est fait un nom. Il fut un des meilleurs golfeurs amateurs de son pays, vainqueur du tournoi junior du New Jersey et surtout, en 1947, de la prestigieuse Walker Cup disputée à St. Andrew's, en Écosse. Mieux : en 1961, il remporta le Pro-Am à Palm Beach en Floride en compagnie du célèbre Arnold Palmer. Quinze fois lauréat du tournoi du Detroit Country Club, il aura en tout représenté les États-Unis à l'occasion de neuf tournois amateurs entre 1935 et 1964.
Côté professionnel, il fut jusque sa retraite en 1981 vice-président d'Essex International, une entreprise de composants électriques fondée par son grand-père et qui fournissait Ford.
