Was a three-sport athlete in High School, playing ice hockey, baseball and football. Known for mastering the hook stick. He was an average skater, and average size, but he could really launch the puck.
Played university hockey for University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. Led the WCHA in scoring 1967/68 and also set an NCAA record for the fastest goal into a game (5 sec on Jan. 13, 1968). Went on to play pro hockey in the WHA, playing a total of 160 WHA games, scoring (54+33) 87 points for Minnesota Fighting Saints between 1972-74.
Moved to Austria in 1975 and played five seasons in the Austrian league before retiring in 1980. Became owner of Heppner’s Auto Body in 1985. Died of leukemia.

Pratiquait trois sports au lycée, hockey sur glace, baseball et football américain. Expert pour attraper la rondelle avec la palette de sa crosse. Patineur moyen, pas particulièrement costaud mais avec un excellent lancement de palet.
À l'université, il se lance vraiment dans le hockey avec les Minnesota Golden Gophers. Meilleur buteur de WCHA en 1967/68 et détenteur du record NCAA du but le plus rapide (après cinq secondes de match le 13 janvier 1968). Enrôlé en WHA par les Minnesota Fighting Saints pendant deux saisons (1972-1974). Inscrira 87 points (54+33) en 160 matches. On ne le verra jamais en NHL.
Rejoint l'Autriche en 1975 où il jouera cinq saisons, à Salzburg et Graz, avant d'arrêter en 1980 à 32 ans. Devenu propriétaire d'Heppner Auto Body, une entreprise de carrosserie, en 1985. Décédé à 64 ans d'une leucémie.
