Started skating at 7 on a frozen pond. Played organized hockey with EV Landshut quite late, at 13, but developed fast and was called into the first ever German Under 16 team.
His father refused he would play in Bundesliga before he got 18. He trained with first team but played only with junior team.
Represented Germany 26 times. In 1979 he got a serious ligament injury and couldn't play during one year.
He came back to Schwenningen which had bought him. He helped this club to get promoted into Bundesliga in 1981 and married a woman from that city. He also settled there after three seasons in Stuttgart (from 1985 to his retirement in 1988).
Was a trained mechanical engineer and then became a hockey coach in the lower German and Switzerland leagues. He trained Sascha Goc, Dennis Seidenberg, Ivars Punnenovs and Fabrice Herzog among others.
He was briefly Schwenningen assistant coach during 1990 playoffs when SERC qualified for their only ever semi-final.

Il a commencé à patiner à 7 ans sur un étang gelé. Il n'a intégré le club de Landshut qu'à 13 ans, mais il a rapidement progressé pour être appelé dans la première sélection allemande des moins de 16 ans.
Son père a refusé qu'il débute en Bundesliga avant ses 18 ans. Il s'entraînait avec l'équipe première mais ne jouait qu'en junior.
26 sélections avec la RFA. En 1979 il est victime d'une grave blessure des ligaments et connaît une saison quasi-blanche.
Il revient en jeu un an plus tard à Schwenningen qui a payé son transfert. Il aide ce club à monter dans l'élite en 1981, trouve son épouse dans cette ville et s'y installe définitivement (hormis trois saisons à Stuttgart à la fin de sa carrière de joueur).
Ingénieur mécanique de formation, il est devenu entraîneur de jeunes en Allemagne et en Suisse et a notamment contribué à former Sascha Goc, Dennis Seidenberg, Ivars Punnenovs et Fabrice Herzog.
Il a été brièvement sur le banc de l'équipe senior de Schwenningen - comme adjoint de son ami Jaroslav Maly - en fin de saison 1990 quand elle a atteint le meilleur résultat de son histoire, une demi-finale.
