Kolliner, Karl (Karel)

Born in the small village of Tursko, about 13-14 km (less than 9 miles) from Prague. He was of Jewish ancestry and German/Czech speaking. He played for BFC Preussen Berlin. When checking the Berlin address book before and after WWI, there were no males with that last name, because he lived in Bohemia, and it is unclear why he played for Germany in 1911.
He was always only referred to as "C.Kolliner" (C for Carl). Karl Kolliner lived in Prague for the majority of his life.
He was captured by the Germans and transported to Terezin on July 2, 1942. Then on October 19, 1944, he was relocated to Auschwitz where he was killed together with his wife. His brothers Emil and Bedřich were also killed there.
Inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame.

Né en fin du XIXe siècle à Tursko, un petit village à une quinzaine de kilomètres de Prague, dans la Bohême d'époque austro-hongroise, Kolliner était issu d'une famille juive où l'on parlait tchèque et allemand. Apparemment, il n'y avait pas de citoyen nommé Karl Kolliner dans l'Allemagne des deux premières décennies du XXe siècle, il est donc difficile de savoir pourquoi il fut amené à représenter l'Allemagne lors du championnat d'Europe 1911, plutôt que la Bohême.
Citoyen pragois durant une grande partie de sa vie. Karl Kolliner était mentionné en tant que C. (pour Carl) Kolliner.
Malheureusement, il fut capturé par l'Allemagne nazie et envoyé au camp de concentration de Terezin en juillet 1942. En octobre 1944, c'est au camp d'extermination d'Auschwitz qu'on l'expédia. Lui, son épouse et ses deux frères Emil et Bedřich n'en réchappèrent pas.
Introduit au Hall of Fame du hockey allemand.
