First played organized hockey for his hometown at the age of eleven. He always maintained that his first love was football and not ice hockey. At the 1981 World Championships he sustained an injury in the first game. He spent his entire career in České Budějovice, except for a short stint in Dukla Jihlava while he was serving in the military.
Scored 124 goals in 412 league games. Retired in the 1987/88 season due to a serious wrist injury that he sustained after a hard hit by Eduard Uvira.
Became both a football and hockey coach in later years.

Commence le hockey sur glace à České Budějovice assez tard, à 11 ans, car il préférait le football, ce qu'il maintient encore aujourd'hui. Blessé dès le premier match du Mondial 1981.
Fit toute sa carrière en club à České Budějovice hormis le séjour obligatoire au Dukla Jihlava durant son service militaire. 124 buts en 412 matches de championnat. Envoyé à la retraite anticipée en 1987-1988 par une blessure au poignet à la suite d'une mise en échec d'Eduard Uvira, le père de l'international allemand prénommé Sebastian.
Ensuite, on le vit sur des bancs de hockey et de football.
