Grew up playing for Templar where he was already as a junior in the mid 1940s and helped the club win the junior championships. Templar changed his name to IK Tigrene and was led by captain Kroge to the 1957 national championships.
He adapted his playing style to the opposition. He either played very conservatively against better opposition, or ventured on offensive raids against weaker teams. Skilled at breaking up plays and was positionally strong in his own zone.
43 games with Norwegian national team.
Retired in the early 1960s. After his retirement he stayed involved in the game, working for the Norwegian ice hockey association, coaching the national team in 1963/64 and 1964/65. Also worked as a sports journalist.

Découvre le hockey avec l'IL Templar qu'il emmène au titre national junior. Le club devient le IK Tigrene et Kroge le conduit au titre en tant que capitaine en 1957.
Il savait adapter son jeu à l'adversaire, accentuant l'aspect défensif face à des vis-à-vis plus doués que lui, devenant davantage défenseur offensif quand le match était à son avantage. Compétent pour couper les trajectoires grâce à son sens du positionnement.
43 sélections en équipe nationale de Norvège.
Arrête le hockey au début des années 1960 et reste impliqué auprès de la Fédération norvégienne, notamment en entraînant l'équipe nationale junior entre 1963 et 1965. Également journaliste de sport.
