One of the founders of the AZS Warszawa team, the dominant Polish team in the 1920s. Won five straight titles with AZS between 1927 and 1931. Shifted from left wing to defense later on in his career. Noted for his strong will and fighting spirit on the ice. Represented Poland 34 times.
Was an excellent rower who was an academic games World Champion and also won a total of five Polish championships. In ice hockey he became an international (LIHG) referee after his retirement in 1931 and also coached the Polish national team.
Had a law degree from Warsaw University and then had his own law firm. In WW I he was a member of POW (Polska Organizacja Wojskowa - Polish Military Organization), a secret military organization. Fought against the bolsheviks and was part of the Silesian uprising. Also fought in WW II and was a prosecutor of the district court of the underground resistance army in Warsaw. Opened his own law firm in 1945.

Un des fondateurs de l'AZS Warszawa, locomotive du hockey polonais des années 1920. D'abord ailier gauche puis défenseur lors de la seconde moitié de sa carrière, Kulej était réputé pour son tempérament combatif. Cinq fois consécutives champion de Pologne entre 1927 et 1931. 34 sélections pour son pays.
Excellent rameur, il fut cinq fois champion de Pologne d'aviron et champion du monde universitaire. Arbitre de la LIHG après avoir raccroché les patins en 1931, il a aussi entraîné l'équipe nationale.
Diplômé de droit de l'Université de Varsovie, il sera à la tête de son propre cabinet juridique à partir de 1945. Il a combattu lors des deux guerres mondiales. En 1914-18, il fut partie prenante de la POW, une organisation paramilitaire polonaise qui s'engagea dans le soulèvement de la Silésie et s'opposa aux bolchéviks. Lors de la Seconde guerre mondiale, Kulej sera nommé procureur de Varsovie au sein de la résistance polonaise.
