Popular among his teammates because of his positive attitude and friendly demeanor.
Played football as a youngster and didn't play hockey until he was 16. Started out as a right wing but because of his lack of skating and size, he shifted to goaltender.
Was nominated for the 1968 Olympics after his excellent play during Moscow tournament (his Czechoslovak B defeated Soviet A-team) but broke his finger just prior to the tournament and didn’t make the team.
At the 1969 World Championships he used a catching glove that was illegal (oversized) in the game against Finland, who protested and he received a penalty for that.
Represented Czechoslovakia 14 times. Played 339 league games.
Played until the late 1970s in the lower leagues.
