His father John - a former NY Knicks draftee - is a basketball coach and his two older sisters also played basketball.
His mother took his six-year-older brother to learn skating at 4. John Jr and Ryan played basketball as well as hockey and both became NHL players.
Strong skater who plays a paceful game. Crafty hands. His booming shot stands out as his main weapon.
Maximizing his average body (183 cm) with a powerful game along the boards or towards the net. Average on-ice vision.
Scored the overtime goal in the Under 18 World Championships 2023 final in Basel. Also Under 20 world champion 2024.

Son père John - qui fut drafté par les Knicks de New York - est entraîneur de basketball et ses deux sœurs Brianna and Alyssa ont aussi lancé la balle orange en université. Sa mère a ouvert une autre voie en emmenant son frère aîné à un cours de patinage à 4 ans. John jr et Ryan ont pratiqué à la fois le hockey sur glace et le basketball, et tous deux ont choisi le palet, finissant par devenir joueurs de NHL.
Ryan est un bon patineur au jeu rythmé et aux mains astucieuses. Son tir explosif est son arme principale.
Il maximise son gabarit moyen (1m83) avec un jeu puissant dans les bandes ou devant le but. Vision du jeu moyenne.
Auteur du but gagnant en prolongation en finale mondiale des moins de 18 ans à Bâle en 2023. Également champion du monde des moins de 20 ans 2024.
