His father Berthold [1867-1930] was a native of Sárvár, Hungary and his mother Bertha Schnabel [1872-1922] was a native of Vienna.
His maternal grandmother was born in Stupava, Slovakia, just north of the Capital of Bratislava.
Fritz Lichtschein was solid but unspectacular. Intelligent and very calm between the pipes. Great awareness.
His biggest drawback was that he was indecisive in crucial moments of games.
He also wasn’t the fastest goaltender around and was rather slow.
Was primarily a field hockey player. Began playing the sport in 1918 and eventually represented Austria at the 1928 Summer Olympics.
He played field hockey abroad both for Stade Français (France) and Frankfurt 1880 (Germany).
Started playing ice hockey late in his career, his first season coming in 1927/28.
He was also a very good tennis player, being nationally ranked in that sport.
Died suddenly at the age of 30 after an appendicitis operation.

Joueur de hockey sur gazon à l'origine. Il commença ce sport en 1918 et y représenta l'Autriche aux Jeux Olympiques d'été 1928.
Il joua au hockey sur gazon pour le Stade Français (en France) et le Francfort 1880 (Allemagne).
Il commença le hockey sur glace bien plus tard, sa première saison fut 1927/28.
Également bon tennisman, classé dans son pays pour ce sport.
Mort à 30 ans des suites d'une opération de l'appendicite.
