Started out as a javelin-thrower and even won the Swedish junior championships. Later on his older brother got him into ice hockey.
He was seen as a tough and physical forward. Had a good nose for the net.
In a friendly game prior to the 1961 World Championships, Göran Lysén played for Sweden despite being sick.
He didn’t have a very good game, and according to his older brother Ingmar, he got a real verbal assault after the game by coach Ed Reigle.
That episode affected Göran Lysén to such an extent that he never really found the love of the sport again.
Represented Sweden 16 times. Retired in 1969.
Worked as a chimney sweep, hence his nickname "Sotarn" (Sotare = chimney sweep).
Worked with that for 34 years and retired in 2004.

Il commença comme lanceur de javelot et remporta même le championnat de Suède junior. Son grand frère l'initia ensuite au hockey sur glace.
Il était perçu comme un attaquant rude et physique. Il avait du flair devant la cage.
Lors d'un match de préparation aux Mondiaux de 1961, Göran Lysén joua en étant malade.
Il réalisa un mauvais match, et d'après son frère aîné Ingmar, il eut une prise de bec avec l'entraîneur Ed Reigle.
Cet épisode affecta Göran Lysén à un point qu'il en perdit l'amour pour le sport.
16 sélections en équipe de Suède. Retraité en 1969.
Il travaillait comme ramoneur, ce qui lui valut le surnom "Sotarn" (Sotare = ramoneur).
Il fit 34 ans de service dans cette profession jusqu'à sa retraite en 2004.
