He was born in Aomori, the capital city of Aomori Prefecture, in the Tohoku region of Japan.
In his first World Championship (Pool C) performance in 1967, Matsuda scored six points (3+3) against Denmark.
He followed that up with three straight 2 points (1+1) performances.
Matsuda however was more of a defensive winger in the Japanese league, and helped Iwakura win the first two Japanese league titles in 1967 and 1968, when they lost only one game in total.

Né à Aomori, capitale de la préfecture du même nom dans la province de Tohoku.
Pour le premier match de ses premiers Mondiaux (Division C) en 1967, Matsuda a inscrit six points (3+3) contre le Danemark.
Il a ensuite enchaîné par trois matchs consécutifs à 2 points (1+1).
Matsuda était pourtant plutôt un ailier défensif dans le championnat japonais, et il aida Iwakura à remporter les deux premiers titres de son histoire en 1967 et 1968, avec seulement une seule défaite.
