Born in Peuerbach, Austro-Hungarian Empire (Today Austria), but grew up and lived in Poland.
He was the son of Jan and Helena Saliszyn. Mauer graduated in accounting. Was 170 cm (5-7) and weighed 68 kg (150 lbs).
He represented Poland 14 times in ice hockey.
Mauer was also an excellent football player, representing Poland in that sport as well.
In 1925 he became Pogon Lwów’s youngest football champion. Also an excellent tennis player.
Went to Bucharest in Romania 1940 to coach there.
During World War II he was sent by the Germans to forced labour in Austria.
After 1947 he was an ice hockey coach for Polonia Bytom, Górnik, Start Katowice and Baildon Katowice.

Né à Peuerbach, dans l'empire Austro-Hongrois (désormais en Autriche), il a grandi et vécu en Pologne.
Fils de Jan et Helena Saliszyn, Mauer est diplômé de comptabilité. Il mesurait 1m70 pour 68 kg.
14 apparitions avec la sélection polonaise de hockey.
Mauer était également un excellent footballeur, international dans ce sport également.
En 1925 il devint le plus jeune champion de l'équipe de football du Pogon Lwów. Également un très bon tennisman.
Il arriva à Bucarest en Roumanie en 1940 pour y être entraîneur.
Durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il fut envoyé par les Allemands aux travaux forcés en Autriche.
Après 1947 il fut entraîneur de hockey du Polonia Bytom, du Górnik, du Start Katowice et du Baildon Katowice.
