Born in Pawtucket City, Providence, RI. Started to play hockey at the age of 15.
Played for Boston University, graduating in 1962, scoring 34 points (11+23) in 53 games.
Served with the US Army Intelligence Corps in Germany, did a stint in the US State Department.
Became a coach and was instrumental in the development of women hockey at different levels.
Coached University of New Hampshire women to a 72 wins and one tie in his first four years. Over his 15 years he won 264 games, lost 36 and tied 11 (.868 win percentage). He also coached UNH women's tennis team for many years.
Known to use techniques that he saw the Soviets use in 1963.
Coach of the US women national team in the 1992 World Championships.
A voracious reader and an accomplished cook who, with his wife, adopted many dogs and cats.

Il entraîna l'équipe féminine de l'Université du New Hampshire avec un bilan de 72 victoires et un nul pour ses quatre premières saisons de 1977 à 1981. Après plus de 15 ans le bilan était de 264 victoires, pour 36 défaites et 11 nuls (86,8% de victoires).
