Born as the 8th out of nine siblings. McIntyre played his junior years of hockey in Trail, joining the Rossland Warriors in 1959/60.
During that season he won the Howard Anderson Memorial trophy for Most Valuable and Sportsmanlike player.
Scored the game-tying goal against Czechoslovakia (1-1) at the 1961 World Championships. It was the most important goal of the tournament since it enabled Canada to win the gold medal.
Two years later he was carted off the ice unconscious after a collision in the game against Czechoslovakia at the 1963 World Championships.
In the 1960's he was a member of the team (Mission Orange) that represented Canada at the World Softball championships held in New York.
He also coached hockey in the Trail area.
McIntyre worked for SD20 until being employed by Cominco where he worked, as a millwright, until his retirement in 1992.
He passed away at his apartment in Rosewood Village, Trail.

Huitième d'une famille de neuf enfants, McIntyre joua son junior hockey à Trail, rejoignant les Warriors de Rossland en 1959/60.
Durant cette saison il remporta le trophée Howard Anderson Memorial de joueur le plus précieux et ayant le plus d'esprit sportif. Il a inscrit le but égalisateur contre la Tchécoslovaquie (1-1) lors des Mondiaux de 1961, le but le plus important du tournoi qui donna la médaille d'or au Canada.
Deux ans plus tard il fut évacué de la glace inconscient après une collision dans le match contre la Tchécoslovaquie (Mondiaux de 1963).
Dans les années 1960 il fut également membre de l'équipe (Mission Orange) qui a représenté le Canada aux Mondiaux de Softball qui se sont tenus à New York.
Il fut également entraîneur de hockey dans les environs de Trail.
McIntyre a travaillé pour SD20 avant d'être employé de Cominco en tant que mécanicien de chantier, jusqu'à sa retraite en 1992.
Décédé dans son appartement de Rosewood Village, à Trail.
